Our Story

Hey all, we’re Brent and Amy Welborn and we had been cultivating the idea for Dirt & Devotion many years before the apparel brand actually came into existence. With eight children, we desired to live a more natural, sustainable, and self-sufficient lifestyle. We turned our rural, small-town yard into a garden and supported local farmers for our meat, eggs, milk, and honey.

In 2016, while we did our best to raise and nourish our family responsibly, our second oldest daughter, Johanna, contracted a life threatening strand of E.coli and was hospitalized in Dayton Children’s ICU for three weeks. This event rattled our drive towards self-sufficiency and it took several years for us to get back on track towards natural health and sustainability.

In an effort to heal mentally and emotionally, Amy started a blog called Dirt & Devotion. She begin to write about her personal journey back to natural health and about getting her hands back in the dirt, literally. This journey also included devotion to the Word and trust in God for healing, hence the name Dirt & Devotion.

As our apparel business Well Worn Clothing Co. grew, our desire for a focused apparel brand grew as well. After years of ideas and discussion, we decided to pursue an apparel brand that fit our passions of faith, community, and homesteading – Dirt & Devotion – the name was a natural fit for this new brand.

We launched Dirt & Devotion in 2022 at The Homestead Festival in Columbia, Tennessee not knowing how the brand would be received. The homestead community’s response has been so welcoming and supportive that Dirt & Devotion continues to grow today. And now, so many years later and due to that growth, Johanna has joined us in the design and production of Dirt & Devotion apparel.
